Having assumed the roll of Shantyboats chronicler, let me introduce myself. Please meet Charles E Earls, (youngest son of Edward & Louise Earls) who was born in St Louis MO. Grew up St Louis & Herculaneum Missouri. Attended Herculaneum High School and was active in newspaper, drama, chorus and sports (In FB,BB and Track). Joined the Navy after graduation. Amazingly, the Japs surrendered 10 days after entering the Pacific. *VVBBG* Went to school upon returning home from the service and met a very nice girl who taught Elementary Ed and we were married. This union produced eight beautiful and healthy children (truly blessed,) 18 Grandchildren and three great GC. Our 24x34 family room now fails to meet our needs when we gather which is all we do to have a party.
When Dolores became pregnant my school days were history and I starting working at the now defunct "News-Democrat in Festus. Went to work at the St Louis Post-Dispatch as a printer. retired from that job after 32 years. Also served two terms as the Mayor of Festus MO. Prior to that the good people elected me to six terms as Councilman representing the 2nd ward. Also served five years on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Municipal League Have enjoyed many activities and hobbies over the years which include fishing, camping, golfing, bowling, and stock car racing (Love to go to Daytona and Talladega Winston Cup races.) I also officiated High School & College Basketball & Football for 27 years. Some of my favorite activities are: Going out to Dinner, Ballroom Dancing, Traveling, Gardening, Cardinal Baseball and my latest love (This PC.)

In memory of my Mother and Father

Pearl of Wisdom

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY

I said a prayer for you today
and know God must have heard,
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke not a word.
I prayed that he be near you
At the start of each new day,
To grant you health and blessings
and friends to share your way,
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small
But it was for his loving care
I pray for most of all.
